Buy Electonic Books on CDs

Following is a list of electonic books that are available on compact disk.  Each is an electronic facsimile of the book it was made from, to include the illustrations, which are all included, and the indexes for those books that have them. The pages of my Memoirs of Madame de Rémusat contain a watermark of my Napoleonic Literature Imperial Eagle logo.  I did this to prevent others from using my CD, which took a long time to produce, from making money from it by using it to print reprints of this old work on paper.  The other books I am offering were produced before the Memoirs of Madame de Rémusat and do not contain this protective watermark; to add it now is too much work.  I will have to trust to the integrity of the people who purchase my CDs that they will not reproduce in any way.  The standard copyright restrictions for other books and CDs pertain to my CDs.  Lastly, each of my CDs contain a new introduction authored by me and I will definately prosecute anyone who reproduces one of my introductions without my expressed permission.  I trust that everyone who purchases my CDs has integrity.

The labels on my CDs have been printed with a thermal printer directly on the surface of the CDs.  Each CD includes a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 for those persons who do not have Acrobat Reader on their computers; however, you can download a later version of Acrobat Reader from Adobe's Web site.  Each CD is autorun and menu-driven.

LIFE OF NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, by William Milligan Sloane

Life of Napoleon Bonaparte is a monumental masterpiece on the life of Napoleon. It originally appeared in serialized version in Century Magazine from 1894 and 1896.  In late 1896, The Century Company published the work in four volumes. In all the four volumes contain 1084 pages of text plus tables of contents in each volume and a 51-page index in volume 4.  There are 70 plates in each volume for a total of 280 plates. More than half of the plates are in color and suitable for framing if printed, and the remainder are black and white, sepia, or cobalt.  On the CD, the plates are reproduced in 300 dpi to assure good viewing and printing quality.  In addition to the 4-volume, 1896, edition of this work, I have included the chapters from the 1912 edition of  Life of Napoleon Bonaparte which were revised from the earlier editions.  These include the preface, chapters 3-7 in volume 1, chapters 35 and 36 in volume 2, and chapters 19 and 21 in volume 4.  Also included is a "history" in which Dr. Sloane explains the evolution of the work from its beginning as a magazine serial through the publication of the 1912 edition.  Life of Napoleon Bonaparte is packed with information that is not included in most of the latter day works and does not contain any of the "invented facts" that tend to become "historical fact" over time as they are picked up and repeated by author after author. Life of Napoleon Bonaparte is such an important work that it deserves a place every high school, college and university library.  Also included is an extensive New Introduction by me that deals with the author, William Milligan Sloane, and his epic work.

LIGHTS AND SHADES OF MILITARY LIFE, edited by Lieutenant General Charles J. Napier

Lights and Shades of Milirary Life is an importart but largely forgotten work that consists of four parts:  Parts I and II, Recollections of Military Servitude; Part III, Recollections of Military Greatness; and Part IV, Military Life in Bivouac, Camp, Garrison, Barracks, &c.  Part IV is the memoirs of Elzéar Blaze and is the first instance of Blaze's memoirs appearing in print.  His memoirs were since reprinted separately, the last reprinting being by Greenhill Books, London.  Lights and Shades of Milirary Life was published in 1850.

THE MEMOIRS OF MADAME DE RÉMUSAT

The Memoirs of Madame de Rémusat was first published in English in 1880.  As I stated in my New Introduction to the book, to the best of my knowledge, the book has not be reprinted since.  Madame de Rémusat's memoirs are arguably the best of the "boudoir memoirs" of the Napoleonic era.  Rémusat was a lady in waiting, friend and confidant to the Empress Josephine.

MEMOIRS OF A CONTEMPORARY, by Ida Saint-Elme

This English edition of Memoirs of a Contemporary was published in 1902.  Ida Saint-Elme described herself as an adventuress.  As I explain in my New Introduction, some of her memoirs appear to be contrived; that is, taken from other people's experiences.  For example, she may have participated in Napoleon's retreat from Russia in 1812 but some of her experiences are suspiciously similar to other memoirs I have read.  However, there is one thing in Ida's favor:  after the publication of her book, she was sued for lible in French court numerous times but never lost.  She spend a lot of time in court.
