Photograph No. 8 - Battlefield Monument
This monument was erected by a French group/society on
August 20, 1903. It's a few yards away from where
Harold was slain. The inscription reads:
Diex Aie!
Dans le champ historique
de Senlac, ou tomba le brave Harold le
Saxon, 837 ans apres la bataille qui donna
a la Grande Bretagne la Loi Normande.
Le Souvenir Normand venu des bords
de la Seine a proclaime avec jioe la Paix
des Normandies Soeurs.

Roughly translated into English, this reads as follows:
Into the historical field of Senlac
where fell the brave Harold the
Saxon, 837 years after the battle
which gave gave Norman Law to Great Britain.
