LeBlond's, A Treatise of Artillery,
etc., which was published in London in 1746, was contributed to Napoleonic
Literature in electronic format by Andrew Ross Charles of Canada. Not
having access to a scanner, Andrew is manually transcribing the text into
Microsoft Word. Since I have been forced to do the same thing myself at
times, I understand the work involved in this and sincerely appreciate
the effort Andrew is putting forth to contribute the Treatise to
Napoleonic
Literature, and ultimately, to you, the reader.
This electronic reproduction of the
Treatise
accurately reproduces the text, to include the archaic form of many of
occurrences of the letter "s" ( f) which is used throughout. Needless
to say, this increases the tedium of manual transcription. This archaic
form of "s" appears throught the text except that it is never
used on the first letter of the first word of a sentence if that word begins
with "S" or on the last letter of any word that ends with "s." For example:
"Seven filly fifters married feven pipers."
There are illustrations in the Treatise that Andrew and I will somehow
make available for this electronic reproduction.
You have undoubtedly noticed the unusually
large size of this text, which is 18 point. Unfortunately, this is the
smallest font I could use that would produce a result wherein the the italicized
text appears in the same weight as the normal text, without going to the
opposite extreme and making it so small that it would be difficult to read.
At 12 and 14 point, the text had a very unpleasing look that I just did
not like. If you prefer to decrease the font size, you can do so; however,
any change you make to the font size will affect all text appearing in
this frame while you are in my website. If you go to another website,
you will see it in the font that it was meant to be seen in. Additionally,
if you leave my website, go to another, and then come back here, the normal
font for my website will be resumed.
